Cool

Crow's Dragon , interesting.

Would love to know more info but i really hope His dragon doesn't have BF exclusive summoning conditions ( Despite having the Namesake >_< )

wow (guest) - 2009/10/08 16:35

should have gave him d.a.d
Mr. Q (guest) - 2009/10/08 16:42

Well...

Considering that 1) it isn't a True Black Feather (As evidenced by it's name.) and 2) It's obviously a Signer Dragon, which NEVER have requirements.

Also, SUCK IT, CROW HATERS. (I know, this isn't Janime.)
NeuxCharge (guest) - 2009/10/08 16:44

lol, im not a crow Hater X_x, I run BF too you know .

But its still early so we ll have to wait.
RakstaR (guest) - 2009/10/08 17:52

CROW FTW. <3

Well, everyone was all "WTF WHARR IZ CROWZ DRAGON LULZ", and I suppose this is their answer. We might not know anything about it except the name (and presumably it'll be DARK/Dragon), but yeah. It exists. 8D
dingo (guest) - 2009/10/08 17:16

bout to start watching the damn show to have some idea whats coming out =p jus can't get over the whole duel on a bike thing, its like driving while texting. the whole speed duel thing really reminds me of the way magic has a cost for everything, thus limiting the amount of stuff you can do on a turn.

ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/08 18:32

Something about the name bothering me.

Maybe it's just because we don't have the card graphic to look at, but Black-Feather Dragon isn't actually a BF monster, right? It's completely different kanji and it doesn't have the usual "BF" in the first part of the name like the others and it has that dash between.

So why call it Black-Feather if it's not Black Feather? Might as well be Shadow Wing Dragon or something (watch that be the TCG name).

HalfDemonInuyasha - 2009/10/08 19:43

reply

As I told others, The Shining Darkness sounds plausible for the Booster name but "Black Feather Dragon" simply sounds WAY too convenient simply because of Crow spontaneously being made the 5th Signer...not to mention that the few images we see of the 5th Dragon in the anime doesn't make it look Black Feather-related at all. As said, it's basically an unarmored Power Tool Dragon...I'd wait and see...

ky3 (guest) - 2009/10/08 20:56

reeply

well in the anime, it was stated that the dragons changed over time... maybe they change wen the signer changes? maybe the 5th dragon we know was just rudgers version of it...
>,> (guest) - 2009/10/08 21:06

Wow....

I don't recall that being said anywhere in the anime Ky....

Anyways , this is dumb, from the way the dragons were going.... this dragon had to be earth or water... (all the other dragons were the other atttributes, RDA is dark...and so on) if you wanna count PTD, then all thats left is water, even though the 5th dragon we see on the show isnt watery looking.... this is all too inaccurate

GoRabbids (guest) - 2009/10/11 04:09

well

the dragon do have some fishy looks to it like the fins and stuff
Josh (guest) - 2009/10/08 22:34

ky3 is right. they did ention in the one episode that the signer dragons changed over time.

Me (guest) - 2009/10/08 22:47

Yay, but that was refering to the fact that
they became cards. Look at episode 30, it shows
the ancient battle that happened 5000 years ago
and the Dragons were the same.
TheDarkAngelRocket (guest) - 2009/10/08 22:48

Re: Josh

Yanagi mentioned that the Signer Dragons changed over time. But remember, they were the same appearance as 5000 years ago when they fought the Earthbound Gods in the flashback.
I doubt Black-Feather Dragon is a member of the Five Dragons. It's probably just a "novelty" like Rua's PTD (which I believe has a greater chance of being Fifth Dragon than Crow's). Remember, Crow was given the power of a Signer. He was not originally one nor was he chosen to become one. The Signers are the reincarnation of the previous Signers.
ShiroRyu - 2009/10/08 23:51

I reckon Black-Feather Dragon is one of the Five Dragons - there's no reason to make it a 'fake dragon' like PTD as Crow is already a Signer. Also, the Signers aren't reincarnations of the older signers, they're 'chosen' by the crimson dragon.
Remember Yusei didn't originally have one even - he got it when he got back Stardust Dragon, presumably because he needed one to play a role in the upcoming duel but his designated sign was still 'attached' to Rudger's arm. So he borrowed Crow's since Crow hadn't had his dragon yet and perhaps wasn't expected to play a role yet.

Anyway as for the set. I predicted it would be something along the lines of 'shining' being white, but Shining Darkness is interesting - it implies there may be some strong light/dark archetype in the set (darksworn? lol). Also as for BlackFeather Dragon it's possible it could be dark? I know it would mess up the 'unique attribute' thing but there's not been any reason given why they all must be different attributes (especially since there's only 5).
Kuri (guest) - 2009/10/11 01:28

Yanagi mentioned that in the dub, there was no such line in the Japanese version. At least, not that I remember. I just dislike Crow being a signer in general. He was just thrown in the fight with Godwin.
Great Shogun Shien (guest) - 2009/10/09 07:22

Six Samurai Comback

They should make some Six Samurai cards that they have their own Tuners and Synchros. The Aliens and Geminis got their own Tuner and Synchro. So why not the Six Samurais. It would be soo cool! Think about it. XD

belial, marquis of darkness (guest) - 2009/10/15 07:08

response

yes, but also i ask for thes synchro power be given to the one that was left out. i mean the fiend type. hope that demon chaos king becomes real, since they put drill warrior in the last set
ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/09 09:11

With that logic, Godwin's Inti is a Signer Dragon too.

Neither Crow or Godwin were originally Signers, Rudger was, but we never saw Rudger with a Dragon, let alone using "Golden Gaia Dragon" BUT it belongs to him technically.

So if one can go with the "change over time" theory, Sun Dragon Inti is a Signer Dragon as much as Black Feather Dragon.

Fifth Signer Dragon changed once it changed hands to Godwin (even if it was Rudger's arm, it still changed to his arm else it would have rejected him) and the same way, it changed when it changed hands to Black Feather Dragon.

ShiroRyu - 2009/10/09 11:45

Not necessarily.
Rudger could have been chosen to be a signer purely for his role in events to come - to allow the recurring battle between earthbound immortals and the crimson dragon to finally be resolved; Crow could have still already been chosen. Remember Rudger's (and consequently Godwin's) mark was actually Yusei's, not Crow's, and Rudger got it before Yusei was born.

Also, there's no evidence that Sun Dragon Inti is a signer dragon - Crow's had his mark for a while now without a dragon card, and Godwin "had" the mark for a lot shorter time.
ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/09 12:08

There's no evidence against it either.

Both Godwins were still Signers. That's indisputable, for however it happened. If one believes that God was always in control, then everyone is what they were meant to be and Rudger, Rex, and Crow (and Rua if you count him as a part-Signer in the way Piccolo and Kami are one) were still Signers regardless of why.

If people are chosen for their roles, then their places were always meant to be (of course that goes DIRECTLY against the very plot nature as well as Godwin's intention of breaking fate to stop the war) and therefore, they were intended to be Signers and Sun Dragon Inti was Godwin's as much as Golden Gaia should have been Rudger's just as much as Stardust belongs to Yusei just as he had no mark until he reclaimed Stardust (because he also had no mark while he HAD Stardust in the past).

Rudger: Golden Gaia (the original)
Rex: Sun Dragon Inti (Moon Dragon Quilla created through his Dark Signer half the same way Dark Flat Top was created for Bommer as a counterbalance to Giant Bomber AIRRAID)
Crow: Black Feather Dragon created once it becomes his time (also gives the fans something better to use than Lone SIlver Wind)
Rua: Power Tool Dragon (created to give presence as well as assistance due to the loss of Golden Gaia to complete the team, but not himself be or replace the original or even be a Dragon)

After all, all Signer Dragons are designed to be fitting of the user's nature but also none of them (are known to) have requirements and with the exception of Power Tool, all are Dragon-Type Synchros (assuming BF Dragon is a Synchro) that are staple and used exclusively by a Signer.

Besides, what you're saying is already highly presumptuous given that most consider Crow becoming a Signer as arbitrary and only done to satisfy the fans (see also: Breakthrough character). It's all up to the writers anyway and only RARELY is a plot for any show written out that far in advance. JK Rowling and Clive Barker are not writing Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's (though, YGO itself is inspired by Clive Barker's works according to Takahashi himself).
Aeon The Phoenix (guest) - 2009/10/09 16:48

BS, Pure and Simple BS

I'm calling fake on the whole set, seeing as we don't know the complete list for 607 yet, not to mention that this only has 5 cards per pack and Black-Feather Dragon sounds like total trash someone just pulled out of their backsides. If Konami is seriously behind this and it's real, I despair for the future of 5D's.

Power Tool looks like the Fifth Dragon's former form, its an Earth type... it fits the Signer Dragon set so far... I can just about cope with ignoring the Fifth Dragon identity and existence, but to usurp it just so they can please the raging fanatics who have no appreciation for plot or setup is really going too far.

Aeon The Phoenix (guest) - 2009/10/09 18:03

Apologies, only just noticed that all OCG packs only have 5 cards in as opposed to the TCG. But still, Black-Feather Dragon? Seriously lame!
ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/09 18:10

Not even close...

No, it was officially announced. IN WRITING. That's why most people aren't even attempting to think that way or even contesting it. Most of us saw the image with the announcement from JUMP (the same page that discusses Absolute Powerforce's most recent info).

A: Not having the full list? We NEVER have a full list usually until the very last week and some times, still not until release. Plus, Absolute Powerforce comes out the 14th of next month, so you can't say it's too soon. If anything, we hate the slow news period between sets in summer and the sets in November (just like the long wait between GLAS and PTDN).

B: How long have you been playing? You know about 607 and yet you haven't noticed it TOO has only 5 cards per pack. And the one before it and the one before it and ALL of the set EVER before it.

OCG packs only give 5 cards per pack (obviously different pricing as well) and they were on the "Super Never Replaces the Rare" format long before TCG finally adapted that (they did starting with TDGS). It's TCG that started the game for us English speakers with 9 per pack, simply because it appeals better to a Western consumership (compare it to other cards in the West, especially Magic TG).

C: You actually had the nerve to complain that people have no appreciation of plot, when you clearly have none for character. You can complain about it all you want, but SINCE YOU CLEARLY WATCH THE SHOW IF YOU KNOW THE PLOT SO WELL, you would know it was coming because they weren't going to let Crow go on too long without a Dragon since he IS a Signer and that is something a Signer has by default. One could say Lone Silver Wind is his strongest card BEFORE he was a Signer similar to the strongest spell that a Basic-Level Magic-User in a RPG has even though they will get stronger stuff once they change to an Advanced-Level Magic-User. It's just proper evolution. Aki's Dragon works with Plants, so why not have a Dragon that helps Birds (we already have that out of regular sets with the Dragunity).

D: Like it or not, we may NEVER see the original Fifth Dragon even by true name. Even if you don't like Crow being a Signer, it would be just as bad if Crow was just GIVEN the "Golden Gaia Dragon" when Rua has the intended Mecha Clone. We were just discussing all that prior to you posting, so you probably just went into TLDRLAF mode. You can cope with "ignoring" GGD, but you're fine with them NOT giving Crow his Dragon (which again means it would be similar to look and design of PTD therefore usurping HIS position)? Unfortunately, to make GGD would have a problem no matter WHAT HAPPENS and someone will be unhappy with the decision.

- Having it means no knowing who it should really go to.
- Giving it to Crow means taking away from PTD's position and importance as well as giving Crow something that is completely unfitting of himself or his character or his deck. It also gives Crow-haters more to bitch about.
- Giving it to Rua takes away from it being a Signer Dragon or at least gives a Signer Dragon to a non-Signer (however important Rua and his connection to an actual Signer is). People and Rua-haters will bitch about that.
- Making the card, but having it be similar to the non-anime anime cards from 606 would be easier for releasing the card for the real game, but means we likely will NEVER see it in the show for the other mentioned reasons.

Final Point/TLDR version: The set is real and official, the TCG set will still have the usual 9 cards per pack, and Crow had to get HIS Signer Dragon eventually and while it's sad not to see GGD, I can come logically to understand the decision rather than bitch about it. Wouldn't be the first card that was shown and never even mentioned again (Fire Dragon and Colorless, Chaos King of Dark World).
RedEyesFan - 2009/10/10 06:34

another person got pwned by Shinobi's WOT.
SynjoDeonecros - 2009/10/10 17:51

If that's true, then that means the reveal of the fifth Dragon is just as bullshit as the reveal of what happened in the Abandoned Dorm in GX, ie. it'll be a never-ending tease with NO resolution WHATSOEVER.

Seriously, they've teased us with glimpses of the dragon, hints to who might have it and what it could be, screwed with us by making us think Leo would become a signer and have his suspiciously similar-looking Power Tool Dragon become the fifth dragon, and thus far...NOTHING! Nothing has panned out! We don't know what the dragon's name is or its abilities, we don't know who has it, and at this point, it doesn't seem like we ever will, especially with the whole "gather the dragons together" arc gone, and the current arc focusing on those Accel Synchros. Similarly, they teased us with hints as to what happened in the Abandoned Dorm, gave tiny hints as to who was involved and what happened, and gave plenty of opportunities through the duels on its premeses to tell us, and what do we really know about it? That Kagemaru was the mastermind behind it, Banner helped him, and Atticus' transformation into Nightshroud happened there, but was otherwise completely uninvolved with the schemes of the other two. We aren't told what those schemed WERE, we don't know WHY the students disappeared, and we never will.

That's what I hate about this series; it has ADD when it comes to revealing important plot points to us. What happened in the Abandoned Dorm? Well, it's like this LOOK AT THE PRETTY BUNNY! OOH, SHINY EVIL SEMEN STAIN OF DOOM! What's the fifth dragon, and who has it? Well, you see OOH, LOOK AT THE SHINY SAVIOR STAR DRAGON! ISN'T IT COOL? OMFG GIANT SPACE OBELISK! It's pathetic. Even the original series had it, to a point, what with the Battle City saga being sidetracked by Noa and the Big Five, but at least THAT didn't cause TOO much of a derailment or delay in finishing the overall plot. And one could argue that the Dartz and KC Grand Prix arcs were bullshit (which they were), but frankly, they were just filler between seasons and didn't really have any impact on either Battle City or Memory World, at all.

In this case, I am going to have to set a precedence here by agreeing with Shinobi's assessment of the fifth signer dragon in relation to this new Black-Feather Dragon; either way, we're fucked on the former. The one thing I DO have to disagree with him on is the logicality of not giving us the fifth signer dragon, as unlike Fire Dragon or Colorless from GX, the fifth signer dragon is rather important to the overall storyline and has to be addressed, somehow and in some fashion, otherwise it's, as I said, the Abandoned Dorm screw-up all over again.
GoRabbids (guest) - 2009/10/11 04:21

um

whats golden gaia where can i find pics
ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/12 01:50

To both:

I never said they would never give it to us, in fact that was the last option I wrote. Just that if they do, it has to be pursued VERY carefully or the fans will just bitch even more than ever.

If it's released as a non-anime anime card (ala SOVR), but in the anime they explain what happened to the real Fifth Dragon/GGD to justify both its disappearance and the importance of PTD as its "clone," it will satisfy all 3 things they need to. Crow gets his Signer Dragon (assuming B-F Dragon is his Signer Dragon) but it doesn't take away from Power Tool or Golden Gaia's importance and we STILL get the physical card to use for our pleasure.

Three-prong attack, shame they won't do it and they'll make someone unhappy.

And to GoRabbids:
"Golden Gaia Dragon" is one of the fan nicknames of the Fifth Dragon and you've literally seen it in the ending of every Dark Signer Arc episode because it's always there next to Ancient Fairy Dragon in the Dragon Collage with the others and Crimson Dragon. The nickname comes from the fact it's an EARTH Dragon (one of the only two unused Attributes - other being Water and Power Tool is EARTH) and the also the color scheme of the Fifth Dragon. Brown, gold and other earthy tonal colors (making it very clear it's not a WATER Dragon). So Golden Gaia (being Earth) Dragon.

It's quite a fitting name and a lot more aesthetic than just constantly calling it "Yellow Dragon." Usually I still put Fifth Dragon somewhere in a post and use GGD the rest of the time to make sure it's clear. It's spreading around quite a bit though.
Divine (guest) - 2009/10/18 18:29

You know...

It seems like everytime there is something going on with yugioh in terms of cards...somone like you (and I dont mean to be offencive) always believes its the end of the game. Saying stuff like "I fear for the future of the game" is just plain wrong. the ultimate outcome is that if all of us on here stop playing TODAY konami would even flinch. They would just get all the other 100000000 of kids in Jap/Amer to star playing. It really makes no since to think we are the only reason this game is alive...
ShiroRyu - 2009/10/09 21:45

I was just re-watching Pyramid of Light (japanese version of course) and I had a thought - in Pyramid of Light both Yuugi and Kaiba got upgraded versions (sort of) of their ace cards (BESD and Black Hierophant), sort of like how in the 5D's OVA Jack and Yusei got upgraded versions of their Dragons (the Busters), in both cases not seen in the series. Also we have the 10th anniversary movie coming out - what if Yuugi and Judai got revamped (maybe even Synchro) versions of their ace cards shown only in this movie? It's a wild thought, but it would perhaps fit the name of this set - Shining Darkness, as Judai's ace is Light (Neos) and Yuugi's is Dark (Black Magician). Of course by that theory Yusei would also get a (yet another) upgrade to Stardust.

As I said, just a wild thought, but I figured I'd throw it out there just in case it happens. :p

ShiroRyu - 2009/10/09 23:04

Never mind this actually - I figure if new cards are released in the movie then it's unlikely Konami would release them 2 months prior to the movie - this set's release is February 20th while the movie will probably be released on April 18th, if they want to be on the exact 10th anniversary of the 1st episode of Duel Monsters that is. I'll keep this up in case for some bizarre reason the movie is shown earlier and the cards are in this set. But I doubt it.
The-Strawhat - 2009/10/11 12:14

Movie

the movie is coming out 10/1 - 2010 in japan and this pack in february in japan and in may in Tcg so there is a change they gonna put some movie cards in it. if not they proberly gonna put it in the dvd.
ShiroRyu - 2009/10/11 12:59

Really? Source on this please? Because if so than it would mean they would either release new cards (if there are any) either in this pack (like with Evolving Duel in Crimson Crisis) or as in premium packs/V-Jumps (like with Pyramid of Light).
HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/10/11 19:43

reply

Eh, the Evolving Duel episode was really just a CRMS advertisement more than anything. It wasn't like it was ALL "brand new" stuff that just happened to be lucky enough to make it to CRMS. (Or others like Stardust Dragon/Buster.)

Depending on how many new (releasable) cards there are, it's quite possible they'll simply release another Movie Exclusive Pack like with Pyramid of Light; entirely separate from the normal Boosters. Then maybe include them as OCG-turned-TCG cards in the 090-099 area of a normal Booster in the TCG.
ShiroRyu - 2009/10/14 02:50

True, but the set name gives me hope. :3 Granted the set names often have nothing to do with the set, but often they do - IOC, CRV, CDIP, STON, GLAS, PTDN, LODT, CRMS (sort of), SOVR and ABPF all refer to a various amount (large in PTDN or LODT, but even as low as 1 or 2 like in SOVR and ABPF) cards in the set, so there is hope. :p

Also if they are released separately, I imagine come TCG release they'll be released as with-movie promos like BESD, SoDM, Watapon and Pyramid of Light rather than added into a set a dozen sets later.
ClearMetalVoltar - 2009/10/09 21:59

archangels?

maybe this pack deals with either light feinds, dark fairies, or chaos monsters.

Chewydog - 2009/10/10 04:36

i knew it

BLACKWING DRAGON!!!!NOW IVE GOTTA REASON TO RUN BWs AGAIN!!!!!!

HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/10/10 06:53

reply

Actually, it's NOT a "Black Feather" monster because of the different text for the name and it lacks the signature "BF" in the name too which is on ALL "Black Feather" monsters (similar to "E." or "D -" for Elemental and Destiny Heroes). So while it may be "Black Feather" in general, it will NOT work with "Black Feather" support as they only support the "BF" ones.

I also wouldn't jump the gun and assume things just yet based SOLELY off the Set name. After all, we had things like "Crossroads of Chaos", yet there was nothing remotely "Chaos" about it. So just because it's "The Shining Darkness" that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be LIGHT and DARK related in mixed ways like that. Though, I suppose it's possible there could end up being some more Demon Roar God (Beast) support or something (all LIGHT Fiend or Beast-Types), but I doubt it given we already got the Demon Roar God Beast "upgrade" in DT07 and all.
The-Strawhat - 2009/10/10 13:16

.

i think thats why its called Black-Feather Dragon and not Black Feather Dragon
Kaiser (guest) - 2009/10/11 04:35

algunas supocisiones

MasterSephiroth - 2009/10/11 18:11

Archfiend Chaos King

I think Archfiend Chaos King could be in this set. I'm hoping for it, truly, but i think the summon requirements will be changed.
HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/10/11 19:51

reply

As I talked about in other places, I wouldn't be surprised if ALL the winning cards are in here. We got Drill Synchron and Drill Warrior already, so it's possible that we could get Splendid Rose, Daemon Chaos King, Rose Bird, and Deformer Cleanen too.

We got 2 slots open around the Synchro area of the Booster for Splendid Rose and Daemon Chaos King with the others taken by Savior Demon Dragon (040), Drill Warrior (041), Sun Dragon - Inti (04?), and Moon Dragon - Quilla (04?). 039, unlike SOVR, wasn't taken by Garlandolph like it was with Norsewemko, so Daemon Chaos King could possibly go there (right next to Savior Demon Dragon (also a Jack-used card) and 042 could be Splendid Rose with 043 and 044 for Inti and Quilla.

Of course, we'll just have to wait and see.
ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/13 15:20

2 slots? You mean ONE slot.

Drill is 41

Treasure of Harmony 45

Since Inti and Quilla are there, that potentially 42 and 43. Which means the only slot available is 44.

So where did you get two slots?

Also, if we're getting Saviour Daemon, we shouldn't be seeing ANOTHER Jack Synchro in the same set. It's not impossible, but it considering there usually aren't sets without non-anime Synchros, the space is more likely to go to that or Splendid Rose. More likely the rest of the winners should be in this set, especially depending on how many besides Drill Warrior are in ABPF. Rose Bird and Deformer Cleanen can easily fit in either, it's the Synchros that have no room.
ShiroRyu - 2009/10/14 02:43

Shouldn't this be in the Absolute Powerforce discussion? It seems out of place here.
ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/14 22:53

To ShiroRyu:

Since the PRIMARY discussion that lead to this is about WHERE those winners cards will go and it will heavily depend on which ones make it into ABPF, no, it's NOT out of place.

Whatever isn't in there, is pretty much guaranteed here. So Daemon Chaos King and Splendid Rose especially would be discussed since one is best to be in ABPF and the other is best to be in "TSHD."
Kei3 (guest) - 2009/10/11 21:09

Maybe...

Maybe they can introduce Fiend Roar Deiities on the TCG set.

HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/10/12 00:12

reply

Chances are the DT stuff will be reserved for different things like the X-Sabers and such.

Perhaps we could possibly see Demon Roar God Beasts like we got XX-Sabers (while the initial stuff came out through other things) and, later on, other "upgraded" stuff like Ally Genex and whatnot.

Black-feather Dragon...

U know don't strain yourselves thinkin what it is or isn't hasent anbody told u guys that crow was just a character that was introduced to the series as a friend of the past but he got so popular they made all this to keep him in the series, it could have hapend to any other character that people liked just imagine some guy with a zoo deck getting popular and the make his hipo dragon lol for the guy who said it should be water. jajaja it will take a while to see this car and what it does maybe like in a month.
ShiroRyu - 2009/10/14 00:52

Fail reply is fail

First off you haven't even responded to a comment on Black-Feather Dragon. Either reply to the news in general or (preferably) reply to a reply on the topic you're replying about.
Secondly, you clearly don't know Yu-Gi-Oh! storywriting very well. It happened in Duel Monsters and again in GX - new major characters (even if they appear to be one-shots at first) are added throughout the series (especially in GX).
Also, in each series to the main character (Yuugi, Judai, Yusei), is an 'anti-thesis rival' (Kaiba, Manjoume, Jack) and a 'friendly rival' (Jonouchi, Johan, Crow). And Crow, like Johan, didn't appear at the start of the series - nothing abnormal in my opinion.
It was most likely intended for Crow to be popular because he would be recurring (rather than being a recurring character because of popularity). It helps for people to like the characters in order to watch something - if you didn't like the characters than it's less likely you'd watch it, eh? Also, it helps to plan the story out at least 1 season in advance, and episodes are put into production before previous ones air - so it leaves little room for adding a character and seeing how he does.

Also, I'm going to expect Black-Feather Dragon to have 2400ATK. It might not - Johan didn't have a 2400ATK card so it's not like there's a pattern, but it's got a slightly higher chance than other ATK values simply because of the character role.
ShiroRyu - 2009/10/14 03:02

Just a thought, but here's something to think about while you argue about "GGD vs. Black-Feather Dragon being the 5th dragon" - what would you say if Black-Feather Dragon looks just like Golden Gaia Dragon (the dragon shown in the flashback earlier in the series) except with some black armour in place of the golden armour and perhaps armoured/metallic wings.

Xehenort (guest) - 2009/10/14 20:22

sorry wrong post.

good thing u know so much about yugioh!(but didn't write correctly yugi ). dont want to argue with u but I've played yugioh! since 1998 in america and i have only watched part of the series and i learned about crows popularity time ago, to Jaden his counter was Aster not johan it's also shown on the cards in booster packs. johan only had monster cards in 2 boosters force of breaker and tactical evolution, his dark rainbow dragon was from when he was possesed, dark counterparts dont count. while crow has cards in 3 boosters up to date in america with an upcoming synchro in stardust overdrive + his signer dragon. thats all i have to say for now if u r so into the series LTF.
ShiroRyu - 2009/10/14 21:04

First off - reply to the right post next time! It's not that hard.
Second off - Yugi's Japanese name is Yuugi. Sorry if this is too ground-breaking for you. Yūgi is an often-used equivalent (as ū=uu), depending on how you translate Japanese text to English text.
Third off - if you use Johan why do you use Jaden, Aster and Yugi (as opposed to Judai, Edo and Yuugi)? I'm nitpicking yes but it's damned hypocritical when you criticise me for using Yuugi when you use Johan.

More to the point - I didn't say Johan was Judai's 'counter', he's more of a friendly rival like Jonouchi. It doesn't matter how many booster packs someone has their cards in when it comes to characters roles in the anime. My point is that like how Jack is to Yusei as Kaiba is to Yuugi, Crow is to Yusei as Jonouchi is to Yuugi or Johan is to Judai. They're all the 'best friends yet really competitive duelists', like how Kaiba, Manjoume and Jack are the 'rich egotistical rivals who start off as an antagonist but later join the main character'. Those are rather simplified descriptions but you get the idea there.
I'm sorry if you can't see the characters in the anime for all the duelling, but they do exist, and there are patterns between the 3 series. You might pick up on the Johan thing a bit more if you watch season 4 of GX.
Anyway the point I was making earlier primarily was that Crow's addition to the anime was inevitable as the character role hadn't yet been filled beforehand. I figured Crow was going to be the 5th signer when he first appeared because I pick up on these character patterns.
ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/14 22:37

To Xehenort:

1998?

You've been playing the English version of YGO since 1998?

Or were you playing the Original Japanese version since 1998?

Either way, NEITHER is possible by any extent of the imagination. The physical game under Konami hasn't even EXISTED in JAPAN until January 23, 1999 (this year just happens ot be the 10 year anniversary, hence the special pack and certain new cards including the first LEGAL God card). TCG didn't start until March 2002 (it's in writing). Even the TCG packs say "6+ years" 1998 was not 6 years ago.

This year especially is the one people did the most research into how old the game is due to the anniversary. Even the game under Bandai was September 1998 and that never came to the US except from import and hobby shops and it was NEVER in English.

So there's not a chance in HELL you've been playing since 1998. 1999 in Japan, 3 years AFTER the first and longest running CCG in creation: Magic the Gathering.
Xehenort (guest) - 2009/10/15 21:26

I see u r well informed or read all this on the net. just to make u laugh at what u think u know 6+ meens ages 6 & up jajaja. and u r right i lied i started in 2001.
And who cares about magic when u play yugioh totally dif.
ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/19 13:59

No, it doesn't

6+ years

They started putting that around the end of 2008/beginning of 2009. 2002 + 6 years = 2008. So 6 + years not quite 7 until March at the time and only set because of the anniversary for the original game.

You do realize if it was meant the way you say, it would say "For Ages 6 and up."

Q: And who cares about Magic when you play YGO?
A: Konami. Always having something to compete with and live up to and a game that is played in more countries with FAR less problems, better art and they play for MONEY and no matter what, YGO isn't run by people who make cards their life the way Wizards is done. It's called always having to make your moves not seem like they were stolen from the brand that has been doing it longer and more successfully. A game that does it WITHOUT the 30-minute commercial every single week often watched by people who have no intention of every playing the physical game. Without that commericial, not nearly as many people would know about YGO, but I promise people know what Magic is in pop culture just as much as they know what D&D is.
Kurona (guest) - 2009/10/19 18:46

Also, Duel Monsters (aka the card game segment of Yu-Gi-Oh!) was initially inspired by Magic the Gathering (so says Takahashi-san himself).
ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/21 10:36

Magic and Wizards

The card game part of the original manga was called "Magic and Wizards" as was the original name for the physical game under Bandai (but gets sold as YGO Bandai anyway).

I don't have to tell you that Magic and Wizards is a clear "homaging" toward Magic the Gathering and Wizards of the Coast.
Scion of the Flames (guest) - 2009/10/18 11:31

(cool my wordpic is "arts")

I'm not really happy to see Crow with a Dragon. First, it seems really out of place in his all wing-beast deck. Second, the ancient flashback 5th dragon looked like and ancient version of PTD. Right down to the face, the colors, the equipment on his arms, the fact they both have four similar wings etc, etc, etc. Just becaus a tool dragon upgraded to modern power tools like screwdrivers instead of spikes and a shovel hand over the giant claw, doesn't mean he aint still the same dragon. Who knows, maybe he was severely wounded and went into bionic surgery and the blue DNA Surgery elves changed his type to Machine. I still think PTD is still the modern verse of the ancient 5th dragon. Yugioh is filled with Misnomers.

Anyway, just because Crow has a dragon, it hasn't been billed as the 5th dragon. So I won't believe it until that happens. I am anxious to see if this might be a 6th dragon old Crimson pulled out of the 'ex machina for Crow. But Crimson has already stepped in (most randomly I might add) to save Rua's life.

Otherwise, I am also not impressed with the mention of more wasteful Cores.

Did I just see Kiryu's name mentioned for this set? I think I just had a mindgasm.

Zkaiser (guest) - 2009/10/18 16:31

Oh no

I'm a little afraid of even more Blackwing support coming out in this pack. As long as Blackwing's Treaasure isn't released I can keep my sanity, though.

One thing that I am happy to see is more Core Chimail support. I run the archetype semi-competitively and it saddens me to see horrible cards come out for the set such as Seapanther and Speeder. Maybe the Core Chimail support released in Absolute Powerforce and Shining Darkness will make them able to stand against what they were made to defeat (DAD and JD decks).

TheDarkAngelRocket - 2009/10/18 18:56

Kiryu

Yeah, chances are Kiryu's coming back folks. Hopefully it won't be just cards that he had as a Dark Signer that were not released in Ancient Prophecy or Stardust Overdrive.
It's called Blackfeather Dragon so it's not a BF support.
Jack being mentioned before Yusei in this set? Awesome.
Core Chimail's still around? Why can't it just die?

ClearMetalVoltar - 2009/10/18 22:58

no

even more effing support for blackwings!? and for core chaimils(failed theme that needs to die)? the outlook of this pack is already crappy.

i glad to see rua and kiryu cards are getting released though, dont care for the others.

Scion of the Flames (guest) - 2009/10/19 05:21

No love for Ruka?
TheSilf (guest) - 2009/10/19 16:13

Great and bad

Meh....really loving the fact that we have more cards from cool people(Go Kiryu! You are the best!). Also happy about Core support, since it nver really took off in the right direction. It has never been a tied deck. I hope in thsi set, we can actually make a Core deck. Still, there really good in lots of builds against meta(We love you Drago and Guardian!)
On another note, MORE BF support? Come on....if we get BF Treasure, BF are gonna rule the place until it, Vayu, and/or Black Whirlwind is banned/limited/semi-limited. And I sure hope we ge suport for sme really underrated deck types. Like Fishes, Sea-Serents, Morphs, Aliens, Frogs, Psychics, Arcana Force, Cyber Dragon, Volcanics and such. And some love for the 1 booster releases, like Iron Chain, Venom, Guardian, Reactor, Cyberdark, Spiders, Infernity, and so on. Well, overall will be a medioCORE(pun inteded) pack.

Kurona (guest) - 2009/10/19 18:50

I so wish they would let Cyber Dragon back to 3!! :p I miss being able to consitently getting out Cyber Twin or even Cyber End Dragons (just ban Limiter/Overload if it's too problematic...)
Also I would love some more (and decent) Venom stuff to go with the Reptilless cards! :3
DarkRaku (guest) - 2009/10/20 02:37

Re: TheSilf

I disagree with some of those decks you mentioned needing support TheSilf. For instance, Morphtronics don't need it they are really good already. The same goes for Frogs. People just don't play them, just because that doesn't mean they should get more support. Frogs are getting some in SOVR, as are all Watter based monsters. Morphtronics will get some no doubt. Psychics get support but they are genuenly too powerful (Brain Research Lab) Aliens, Fishes, Frogs and Psychics along with Morphtronics get good support - it can't be helped if no one wants to play them.

Admittedly, I will agree on your point about Volcanics, they do need some more stuff, but like all the other types of decks you mentioned that in your opinion need more support, if built right they can be really competative - all except for Iron Chain, they are another type that need support.

Blackwings do not need new support, but they sell well. Besides, we don't know whether or not something will come along to make Blackwings rubbish or not. Eventually there will be, so letting them top, considering they get hit, for a couple of formats isn't too bad.
HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/10/20 05:11

Yeah, a lot of the GX Decktypes (Gem Beast, Volcanic, Antique Gear, etc) and other one-time Decktypes (whether GX or 5D's like Chain stuff) I doubt we'll really see more of anytime soon. Still have yet to see Antique Gear Statue used in the Duel Academy filler episode.

Just like how we're not really getting any more actual "Guardian" support, Toon support, Dark Scorpion support, Gravekeeper's support, Name-based support (Chain Thrasher and the likes), Senet Switch-based support, and so on and so forth. We got a little bit of Spirit support way back in TDGS, but most of it is just basic effects (like the Equips) and things people probably wouldn't use very much besides probably Kinkabyou and Izanagi.
TheSilf (guest) - 2009/10/20 21:25

Meh

@DarkRaku I know they are good decktypes, that's why I wanted support. But they're not competitive enugh. Just too slow/easily counterable. Most of those decks I mentioned are LIGHT/DARK and can be easily side-decked against. They can win duel 1s easily, but after that....It's like with LL. But yeah, can be pretty good. Mistaken at that point.

And Sea-Serpents and Fishes got some good support lately, but it's like the old batterymen were. Enough to make a deck around, but a very low tier one. And Arcana Force are like E-Heros. Not enough GOOD support. Volcanics biggest problem is SDD.
And still, 1-booster-sets, as HalfDemonInuyasha mentioned, should get some support. Again, like Batterymen, Aliens were, jus no enough, or enough but bad. Gem Beasts are too slow, rely on Pegasi to make them fast. Guardian has gained a boost in Eatos, but it's not a direct boost to them, Toon, Dark Scorpion, Gravekeeper, Senet, Chain have long been forgotten. Spirit didn't gain enough of a boost. Lots of pointless cards lying around, not even plenty enough to make a good fun deck, definetly not enough for competitive dueling, and just generally a bad idea.
SynjoDeonecros - 2009/10/21 01:48

I agree on the lack of support for the old cards; I built a Senet Switch deck using the four or so cards that we got, and I can tell you right now that, with the proper support, they would be VERY annoying to go up against; believe it or not, Alien Infiltrator is uber-frustrating to deal with, and Blasting Fuse combined with Winged Rhynos is a nasty little trap for the opponent.

I'm still ticked off at Konami's avoidance of good Beast/Beast-Warrior support. Yeah, I know Barbaros Skill Drain decks are popular, but those mostly rely on stuff like Thunder King Rai-oh and Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo to control the opponent's Special Summons, with Barbaros as a finisher. And don't get me started on the Cat Synchros; the only reason those decks proved popular was because Airbellum is level 3 and, thus, ripe for Rescuing. And now that Cerberal's out, he's getting major use, as well. That's not so much good Beast/Beast-Warrior support as it is a short-sighted lack of playtesting. Where's the Phantom Beast support? Where's our Bronze Warrior expy? Where's our Infernal Blast Hounds?

Frankly, I'm in full agreement that the Koa'ki Meiru cards are pretty crap; they're extremely ill-conceived, ill-supported, and ill-coordinated. It's like the Genex monsters; Konami doesn't realize that the archetype isn't good, and are pointlessly trying to shove it down our throats as the Next Big Thing that it isn't. It's stupid, really.
HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/10/22 04:45

I think the Core-Chimail thing is a bit reversed.

To me, the Core-Chimail stuff, at first, wasn't MEANT to be used as 1 big family Deck, but rather meant to be support themselves for things like Dragons and whatnot based on their secondary maintenance cost (revealing a matching Type of monster). Otherwise, to be able to (easily) use them as 1 Deck would easily murder most of the top Decks because of how liberal they are with countering such strengths while giving them their own (negating effects, preventing Special Summoning of things, searching, drawing, etc).

It's more like they made the Core-Chimail stuff as a way for the various Type Decks to have some direct anti-meta card(s) to be able to use while NOT worrying about the maintenance cost since the Deck will most likely have many matching Types of monsters to reveal to keep out that monster, thus making Core-Chimail's Steel Core not completely necessary. NOW, however, Konami is trying to shove them down our throat as a full-on family Decktype by making more general-purpose effects that utilize "Core-Chimail" monsters specifically.
An Onyx Mouse - 2009/10/23 21:05

My only hopes for the set:

That they continue the Ritual support they started with SOVR and ABPF. At the very least, maybe a couple more Ritual Devils, or a "catch-all" Ritual Spell like Advanced Ritual Art that only lets you use Ritual Devils as fodder for it.

Of course, I'd love it if they went ahead and made one or two new Ritual Monsters as well, but I'd be content with just that.

HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/10/24 01:13

reply

I could see more general Ritual support and another Ritual Devil, but I wouldn't expect it to be lower Level at least.

If you notice, since there's no Ritual Monster higher than 8, they seemed to purposely make it so one COULDN'T simply use JUST the Ritual Devils in the Ritual Summon (you'd always end up not being able to use 1 of them) in order to take advantage of all 3's current effects. (And considering you're removing them from the Graveyard essentially means you're only using 2 cards to get out a very deadly Ritual Monster with all those extra effects.)

I also wouldn't expect an Advanced Ritual Art-type of card for the Ritual Devils either considering you'd then easily get 2 big Ritual Monsters out with 1 of them using their effects to wreck your opponent. If they DID make a card like that however, then one better expect it to be quite a bit more restrictive in its effect than ARA was since, obviously, making ARA Normal Monster-only did nothing to prevent it from being used evily.

Though I do also hope they make more general Ritual Monsters since I'm SICK of seeing "Chaos Duo"-types of monsters just because something got restricted/forbidden; first Chaos Emperor Dragon and Soldier (or Sorcerer), then they "replaced" them with Ruin and Demise (Demise not really seeing much use at the time until ARA came out and all), followed up with Enrise and Norleras (Norleras not seeing much use at the time until Phantom of Chaos came out while Dimension Fusion wasn't banned).

Now they make Norsewemko and Garlandolph...another LIGHT and DARK duo.

Thankfully, Norsewemko takes a different approach with its destruction immunity effect rather than simply copying Soldier/Sorcerer with potential double attacking/removing monsters, but Garlandolph is still the usual blow-lots-of-stuff-up effect, but only a little more restrictive than Demise was; Galrandolph needing to be Ritual Summoned, is not optional, only hits face-up equal or lower DEF monsters (which will tend to be ALL face-up monsters considering not much is used with 2500+ DEF anyway except Judgment Dragoon ), but it gains 100 ATK for each of those monsters destroyed.

We have yet to get a WIND Attribute Ritual too, lol.
cyberzane19 - 2009/10/26 01:40

omg kiryu back !!! anyone have any guesses to what kind of cards he's going to use seeing as all the cards hes used have been released.

ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/27 10:51

Missing from Crow:

-- Black Feather Shoot (discard BF, destroy opponent's face-up monster
-- Black Feather Treasure (Destiny Draw for BF)
-- Black Thunder (burn card punishment for killing BF in battle)
-- Black Feather - Anchor
-- Black Feather - Back Flash
-- Shadow Dance
-- Life Exchange
-- Bomb Guard
-- Parasite Mind

I hope for Bomb Guard and Life Exchange

ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/10/30 08:47

NEO SATISFACTION!!!

Ok, if Episode 86's title really is "Neo Satisfaction," I guess we know why we're getting new Kiryu cards.

Also, I'm thinking we'll see Crow's Dragon when Jose duels and reveals his (obviously WATER-based) Machine Emperor.

ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/11/11 22:48

Infernity Death Dragon

I guess we're getting Infernity Death Dragon in The Shining Darkness since we're getting Kiryu's cards in it and it shows up in Episode 88.

Scion of the Flames (guest) - 2009/11/20 05:46

I wonder if it's a Synchro monster or an effect monster.

I still don't think that Black-Feather Dragon is the original fifth dragon. That dragon had no black feathers. In fact, it's four wings had NO feathers. So I'm not sure if the card will necessarily appear against the final Infinity monster. There's also the fact that Crimson took pains to rescue Lua from falling himself, actually making his first season 2 appearance to save the boy. He may not see spirits like his sister but he is the only one who can contact her when she's goes to the spirit monster world. He could have a hidden power that makes him the flip side to Luca. Power Tool Dragon has had instances in which it definitely seemed like much more than a programmed hologram. Most distinctly when Lua lost against Divine. There was a very curious moment in which we saw Lua reflected in PTD's eye as it gazed back at him on the ground before disappearing.
