Not bad

Interesting trap line-up, cool use of Demon Roar God Beast Cerberal. 45 card deck is pushing it a little though, IMO.

Why are most OCG Lightlord decks maining Spirit Burner all of a sudden?

REM610 (guest) - 2009/10/06 20:40

Why use Spirit Burner

Just one reason not to mill yourself to death is the only reason that i could see and i guess so that you can actually use its effect with Honest for a quick burn i guess or turn it into defense...
Fyga - 2009/10/06 21:29

Spirit Burner, you need to read into it more

It's a pseudo-infinite, slow version Enemy Controller at the cost of your Draw Phase; which in LS is not a bad deal.

The trend in YGO that most strong monsters have low DEF hasn't stopped, and this option opens up space for:
1) Not having to rely on some amazing top-deck to run over your opponent's monster (Goyo/Brionac/etc. dies to small fry like Lyla; Ehren fodder)
2) Not needing your opponent to attack your monster so much when you want to run over theirs (Honest).

In both of the above common cases, this 1 copy of Spirit Burner adds consistency; a golden term for LS.
It's a situational card of course, but it's rarely a bad mill & half the time wouldn't be a bad top-deck.

I bet it's almost never used to prevent a deck-out, it's popular b/c you can draw it fast thanks to milling, or choose to use it whenever you want to (pitch it for Lumina/Beckoning/Raigeki B./etc., fetch it when you're stuck); the no-deck-out thing's just a bonus.

If actually people cared about decking out, they'd have used Magical Blast years ago.

Spirit Burner...

I guess the threat of Catastor and Decisive Arms is big enough that, while a good LS player can play around them, doing so delays your OTK by at least a turn which puts you at greater risk of deckout...

Well, Catastor anyway. Not playing Beckoning Light greatly reduces the potential harm Decisive Arms does.

Spirit Burner.... (guest) - 2009/10/07 00:52

I have only one thing I say erhen the lightsworn monk in TCG or eilen in OCG can beat returning all is in yours sights....
DeaDog (guest) - 2009/10/07 03:59

Lightlord

Now I laugh at people that said that Lightlords didn't need to be hit in the ban list because they are inconsistent. This month, just like last month in japan, will probably have a massive amount of LS variant decks winning tournaments.
I seriously want an inconsistent deck like that...

Lightlords

Spirit Burner can be drawn from the Graveyard at like any time, and helps delaying decking out. The MAIN reason to use it though is the fact that it allows Ehren to bounce back any monster in the game barring Skill Drain, including the all-important Colossal Fighter and Stardust Dragon.

And DeaDog, according to the count on this site, this is only like the Third Japanese Lightlord deck to have won since Extra Pack 2 was released, hardly a "massive" amount.

Anyways, on my thoughts to this deck. Still no Honest in the main, but glad to see it in the side at least. I personally don't like the idea of running Goblin Zombies in a deck like this. I still say running 2 Mezukis and 2 Foolish Burials is enough and those remaining deck slots should be used for Honests or Chaos Sorcerers. Maybe Zombie Master can fit, but Goblin Zombies are a bit too slow for Lightlords and you can't take advantage of them if they get milled. And I just don't think the whole running Bestiari in the side in case of drawing Brain Control before Brain Control or Bestiari is milled is consistent enough to warrant a place in the side. Also still not a fan of the whole Raigeki Breaks either.

I like the idea of running Cerberal though, good light tuner and is actually good when discarded, and can be retrieved with Beckoning. I still think these Japanese Lightlord decks should be running Monster Reincarnation or Beckoning in the Main though, and so far I don't think I've seen 1 that carries one of those cards in the main.

kura (guest) - 2009/10/07 08:12

goblin zombies makes the deck easy synchro for decisive arms and etc... and also, for doing hell kaiser loop you will need goblin zombies, even brionac loops... tats what the japanese are playing now... cerberus is too strong XD
zoop (guest) - 2009/10/07 08:19

cerberal can special summoned out even if it is thrown as a cost, thus the japanese are putting in raigeki breaks. It clears stuffs and also allows you to discard unwanted stuffs like mezuki, gardna and all that. If they put beckoning of light instead of raigeki, they might get otk-ed by decisive arms burning.
meepz (guest) - 2009/10/07 17:33

what is the hell kaiser loop??
xtreemmasheen3k2 (guest) - 2009/10/07 07:04

Book of Moon

Also, I think I'm starting to get why these Japanese Lightlord decks are running Book of Moon in their mains. While being a very splashable, all-around good card, I think one of the main reasons they're using Book is because there's at least 1 Catastor running around in people's Extra Decks these days, and they need Book to get rid of Catastor, while Honest does not get rid of Catastor.

Omega (guest) - 2009/10/07 09:37

It also makes you not auto lose to Banisher of Radiance + something if you can't get rid of that something
petqwe (guest) - 2009/10/07 11:42

It delays your opponent bringing Decisive Arms
Handsome Rob (guest) - 2009/10/07 17:55

I just don't understand why they just don't max out on Mist Wyrm over in Japan. It's infinitely more abusable than Brionac since Lumina / Cerberus can easily turn into a Mist Wyrm and spin three cards to the opponent's hand much quicker than Brionac can. I'm a TCG player but the first thing I though about was the insane beckoning Light plays the Japanses players would be making for just Lumina + Cerberus for quick Mist Wyrm Bounce plays before dropping a JD. Not to mention Lumina + Cerberal Plays for Stardust followed by JD to ensure it gets its effect off. I do love the Ehren Spirit burner combo which I am currently going to be trying to a lesser extent over here in the TCG but I still need a second Ehren before i decide to add in a Spirit burner on top of the two already maindecked Book of Moons in my deck. I tried a proxy Zombiesworn build like his also and didn't find much consistency in it. the Advantages of Aurkus Honest far outweighed that of pulling out Hellkaizer in my playtesting.

pby (guest) - 2009/10/07 19:15

what is this hellkaizer and what is so good about it
me (guest) - 2009/10/08 17:11

@pby

hellkaizer..he means doomkaizer loop so feared for decks running few zombies like ls
pby (guest) - 2009/10/08 19:23

still... what is the doomkaiser loop then? is there some combo with doomkaiser dragon..?
Aimlessly Staring (guest) - 2009/10/09 02:51
