Fossil Fusion - 2009/07/16 14:44

Isn't this that Dark Synchro? :o I guess it's now a normal synchro.

Kotori - 2009/07/16 15:09

No Dark Synchros in OCG metagame

This shows tht Dark Synchros will not be introduced into the rl world..at least they r now useable as Normal Synchros.

*Demak's and Rudger's Dark Synchros are also printed as Normal Synchros in Valuable Book 12 (:
Anonymous (guest) - 2009/07/16 15:49

Dark type tuner? maybe
fgh299 (guest) - 2009/07/17 19:41

Dark Synchros

Did you really expect that on the game, just think like konami, its too complicate for child to put that, that was just the villain top card then the immortals and now more broken cards, I don't wanna a game with a DAD/JD in every deck.
title (guest) - 2009/07/16 15:34

one hundred eye dragon

this is worse than i thought it would be

the anime version was more better than this

OmegaBlack (guest) - 2009/07/16 15:57

hey thats life lol
aimlessly starring (guest) - 2009/07/18 00:39

you do know, you can pretty much special summon this guy with Gale + Barox (which can be instant fusion)?

and once it copies gale, you can pump this guy up with Sirocco?

or use its effect to copy Jinzo and negate traps, or Gyzarus to special summon 2 gladial beast?

or Sirocco to pump?

or Dark Grapher to sent monsters to the grave?
J4b0i (guest) - 2009/07/16 16:32

Hmm I don't get the effect, This card is treated as the same as the removed Effect Monster? :| What is he copying besides the effect?

aimlessly staring (guest) - 2009/07/18 00:36

name and effect

the translation states it copies the name of the monster and the effect of the monster
MasterSephiroth (guest) - 2009/07/16 16:35

Lol...

Summon:
Carrier + Caius

Effect:
You could use every effect, that isn't useful at that moment, like Caius, Zombie Carrier, Malicious. Maybe something for BF...no, wait, you have to use Demon-Type, oh yes, so it's only useful in a BF-Deck who uses Caius, or in a Necro Emporer Deck...maybe in Absolute Zero Synchro Deck, to remove from play some cards to get out DAD...oh, now i have a great idea, summon this card, then remove from play "Phantom of Chaos" to use it's effect, to remove from play Judgment Dragon....yay^^

Medigo (guest) - 2009/07/16 16:41

what about Dark Resonator + Mist Archfiend?

TheDarkAngelRocket - 2009/07/16 17:15

OHED

OK, so One-Hundred Eye Dragon officially... nerfed.
It has the same ATK and DEF stats, but its Level is just an inversion of its anime Level. By DARK Tuner, I wonder if they mean any Dark-attribute Tuner (meaning that the Dark Tuners from the anime will not be released because their levels are too high).
Its effect has changed from the anime- instead of having the effects of "any" DARK monster in your Graveyard, you must remove a DARK monster in your Graveyard (it also must be Level 6 or lower so you really can't abuse this card with DAD or any high-leveled broken DARK monsters from Phantom Darkness). Another nerfed element is that the card added to your hand must be an "Earthbound God" (unlike in the anime where you can bring ANY card from your Deck to your Hand). I guess this will have to do, since Eternal Stone (unfortunately) was not released in Stardust Overdrive.

SynjoDeonecros (guest) - 2009/07/16 17:43

They could still release the Dark Tuners, but they'd have to put in an extra line stating that, when they're tuned, you subtract the non-tuner's level from it to get the level needed. So, for Dark Tuner - Catastrogue, for example, it would be like this:

Dark Tuner - Catastrogue
Level 8/DARK/Fiend-Type/Tuner/0/0
Effect: When this card is used for the Synchro Summon of a Synchro monster, you must subtract the level of the non-Tuner monster(s) used for the Synchro Summon from this card's level instead of adding it. When this card is used for a Synchro Summon, destroy 1 card the opponent controls.

There. Simple.
Aimlessly starring (guest) - 2009/07/18 00:40

it does mean a dark attribute tuner.

the fiend can either be instant fusion or dark realms.
An Onyx Mouse - 2009/07/16 20:29

Well, that's interesting...

Stripped away the broken aspects of the card (Copying EVERY Dark monster in your graveyard? Getting ANY card if it goes boom? Can we say "instantly Forbidden"?), gave it a much more balanced and, to me at least, interesting effect....would've been nice if they'd gone ahead and kept the Dark Synchro mechanic, though. Or at LEAST kept the black card backgrounds. :[

Oh well, this'll do, I suppose. Can't say I'm too crazy about it forcibly being Fiend-type non-Tuners, though.

Jeff (guest) - 2009/07/16 20:47

Well I'm a little bummed that you HAVE to use a Demon non-tuner.

Beyond that though, very nice.

ShinobiPhoenix - 2009/07/16 21:19

I'm happy enough just seeing the card, let alone to complain.

I understand not using just ANY Dark because that includes some of the nastiest stuff in the game. Venominaga, Dark End Dragon, Dark Armed Dragon.

I would have liked at least 8 or lower, so have Gandora, but that would include Dark End and DAD. So at least 6 is meeting me half way.

It's still a 3000 dragon that CAN do battle damage unlike Phantom, and you can still search EBGs at least.

Jab0i (guest) - 2009/07/16 23:15

So I'm guessing once and if Dark Tuners come out, they'll be like this example: Dark Tuner Catastrogue LV8 0/0 Dark/Fiend If this card is sent to the Graveyard for the Synchro Summon of a DARK Synchro Monster, destroy 1 card your opponent controls.

Wolfgang DelaSangre (guest) - 2009/07/16 23:57

The Straw That Broke the Camel's Back

I quit.

SynjoDeonecros (guest) - 2009/07/17 02:06

Wow, that was random. Why are you quitting? Because the Dark Synchros are being released, finally? Or because they're being released as normal Synchros?

Seriously, I've heard several people, including my own roommate, threaten to quit the game if the Dark Synchros were ever made, and I have to ask, WHY?! You've stomached the Hero monsters, the Lightsworns, the Gladiator Beasts, the original Synchros, etc. Every single thing that Konami has thrown at you as far as this game is concerned you've taken without leaving, so why should this be any different? The game isn't RUINED FOREVER!!! because they're releasing the Dark Synchros, especially now that it's clear they're doing away with the Dark Synchro Summon mechanic and making the cards more balanced (as someone else pointed out, if they had kept the original effect for Hundred-Eyes Dragon, it would have been the new Chaos Emperor Dragon and banned just as quickly).

You're pathetic, honestly; the Dark Synchros are NOT going to ruin the game, and there's no reason for you to give up on the game because of them. All you're doing is getting pissy and moany over some aspect of the game you don't like and are trying to protest against it in a really stupid and, ultimately, futile manner. As I said, you've already suffered through several aspects of the game that you probably hated before now, and you didn't quit, so this shouldn't be any different. Hell, there's plenty of times where I could've quit the game, because I didn't like some of the changes they made to the game, but you don't see me getting in a fuss about it or threatening to quit if they aren't changed back. Why? Because I know that, if I stuck around long enough, there WILL be parts of the game that they introduce that I'll actually LIKE, and it's THOSE moments that make the game worthwhile. Take recent sets, bot OCG and TCG; they've been skimping on good Beast/Beast-Warrior support for a long while, which pisses me off to no end, as I'm a huge fan of those monsters, but they HAVE been bringing out some decent support for them (Berserking, Moja, and most recently Spiritual Forest), and Stardust Overdrive has no less than FIVE cards that have caught my interest, so that offsets the stuff that they introduce that i hate and keeps me in the game. You've probably done the same thing, yourself, in previous sets, so why stop now?
Wolfgang DelaSangre (guest) - 2009/07/17 07:43

I'm not quitting because they released them

I'm quitting because they dropped the Negative Level mechanic and completely RUINED the Dark Synchros. I had been hoping and praying that they would make the Dark Synchros, BUT AS THEY WERE. Yes, OHED is broken, but it wouldn't be that bad.

1) Only Nightmare Hand or Des Submarine could be used to summon it. Both are useless with Trade-In. Allure would only hurt them. Dark Grepher could be Semi'd and Armageddon Knight could be Limited. RotA is already Limited.

2) Premature Burial is banned. Monster Reborn is a one-shot. Solemn Judgment is at 3. Limit Reverse can be Limited.

3) Negative Levels would've been an awesome mechanic. A giant "screw you" to Gravity Bind decks. Also, Graceful Revival.

4) The cards would've just LOOKED awesome. Black borders? Blue stars? Blue stars on the OTHER SIDE of the card? COOL!

I'm not quitting because they are releasing the Dark Synchros. I'm quitting because they bent the Dark Synchros over and raped them with the force of a huge dude with a life sentence. They look AWFUL with the white border and orange stars, and One-Hundred Eye Dragon isn't NEARLY as menacing as he was in the anime. The only Dark Synchro I don't really care about is Zaemon, and he sucked to begin with. Fitzgerald was better.

Thanks for misunderstanding. Idiot.

As said, ANYONE with any sense could see that, whether it be a normal or Dark Synchro, that its effect would be nerfed from the anime. No way would it have kept the exact same effect(s).

Otherwise, one could simply keep dumping DARK monsters for some sort of near-locking ability like Dark Paladin (Gale Dogra could have more use! XD), Jinzo, D. Hero Bloo-D, The End of Anubis, etc, etc without really lifting a finger given all they would need to do is sit in the Graveyard, and if by some chance the opponent managed to destroy it, well, you immediately get any 1 card from your Deck to your hand which further adds to your resources AFTER your opponent would've depleted their own resources just getting rid of it.

Then there's the fact that it, or any Dark Synchro Monster for that matter, is NOT nomi, so you could've just added Monster Reborn to your hand from the effect and revive One Hundred-Eye Dragon and make ALL that work of the opponent's nothing at all. Way too much advantage for 1 card that's also not that difficult to get out overall.

So really, the fact that it was kept as close as it currently is is pretty big in itself and STILL a decent effect overall. (I can already think up several monsters that it could be used in combination with in pretty deadly style.) So yeah, it could've been MUCH, MUCH worse for those complaining that it could've been better than it is right now or that it's worse than they expected.

The whole bit about quitting over it was pretty much covered.

It's pretty clear that it was made based on its use in the anime as well;

1.) It was used in a Deck who was mostly Fiend-Types, thus the Fiend-Type non-Tuner Monster bit. (So Dragon-Type non-Tuners wouldn't really "work" in that sense.)

2.) Level 6 was the highest Level of monster used with its copying (Infernity Destroyer), thus that portion of the effect.

3.) It was also a DARK Effect Monster.

4.) It always seemed to use the effects of monsters 1 by 1 at different points rather than all at once, thus the once per turn, remove 1 monster bit.

5.) Both times its effect was used to search, Kiryu always got Earthbound God - Ccapac Apu, thus the change from any 1 card to simply an "Earthbound God" monster.

Scion of the Flames (guest) - 2009/07/17 07:40

Totally Agree

I agree. It's not so much nerfed as it is that it's effect was made far more specific than the vague card text that was used because the writers probably weren't quite sure how it would be used in the deck when they designed it. Simply left it open to avoid running into a wall in the middle of scripting a duel. Does it's more specific effect really vioalate any of the way's it was used in the anime?
Scion of the Flames (guest) - 2009/07/17 07:47

Cont.

If anything, being able to take on the archetype name of a monster is a good thing. As it means that while it's that monster it benefits from not just the effect but any support related to it and it's archetype.

Only task now is returning that RFP monster back from the different dimension. lol Hidden message. (wink wink)
cytheh - 2009/07/18 06:26

NOOOOO!!!!! This is most disappointing news ever!!!

This means that we can say good bye to Dark Synchros and Dark Tuners...
Before I thought that white frame was ugly, but then i understood why it's white.( Cuz h
there's Dark Synchros which are black/grey frame. But now wat... they will not exist. So again, synchro frame is ugly and is meaningless again...

J4B0i - 2009/07/19 22:57

HMm I just don't think this card is worth running. It most certainly won't be in top decks that's for sure. Fun non the less, but really is bad.

danierulynx - 2009/07/20 00:53

I've deleted all of the comments regarding Wolfgang DelaSangre's disdain for this card because the argument it led to is getting out of fucking hand. It's clear that neither of you (Wolfgang DelaSangre and HalfDemonInuyasha) are going to agree on anything regarding this matter, so the pair of you can do the rest of us a favour and stop filling this page with wall after wall of fucking text before I start bashing heads!

This is a warning - stop this pointless bickering! Any comments pertaining to the above dispute will be deleted on sight. ON SIGHT!

Now pack it in!

Kinzoku (guest) - 2009/07/20 14:51

A Point

I'm not too disappointed about the Dark Synchros. In my opinion, when Reptiless Lamia was shown as a synchro monster for the DARK SIGNER archetype Reptiless, well, if they were going to release Dark Synchros in the first place, then they would have probably just skipped Lamia in the first place and released it with the other "Dark Synchros" AS "Dark Synchros."

Kinzoku (guest) - 2009/07/20 14:51

(if that made sense)
Zero (guest) - 2009/07/20 21:00

Oh well

It sucks that it's not being released as a dark synchro but Whatever no sense in cryiing about it.i'm just glad there releasing it i can use it in my infernity deck and there are plenty of 6 and lower dark monsters i can use this with.I hope they just realease it in America soon hope it's a SJ book promo.I have a question can i just keep using his effect and he keeps gaining effects or if i use his effect and i use it again does it cancel out the first effect?

HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/07/21 04:54

reply

It'll probably take a couple months before it comes out in english if not longer for new stuff.

And the answer is right in the text; the name and effect gaining is once per turn and only last until the End Phase, so essentially, it's a clean slate at the very end of your turn and start of your opponent's turn and goes back to being "One Hundred-Eye Dragon" with its own effect.
TheDarkAngelRocket - 2009/07/22 06:30

Card Art

The card art looks fine to me.

HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/07/22 20:07

reply

It's not the picture of the monster itself that was complained about (as they're still the same as the anime), but just the fact that it's not Dark Synchro-looking anymore because...

A.) The background isn't a dark grayish color.

B.) The Level Stars are normal colored and normally placed rather than dark blue/black and on the left side of the card.

...people thought the Dark Synchros looked cool like that, but being changed to normal Synchro makes them "ugly" and less intimidating now.
Cat-man (guest) - 2009/07/24 11:01

Inuyasha...

You can't honestly tell me that card art THAT dark actually looks good with WHITE card frames.

Morgan Freeman can pull off a white suit and make it look good. Dark Synchros cannot. End of story.
HalfDemonInuyasha (guest) - 2009/07/26 19:36

reply

I'm not saying it looks awesome, but it's not as bad as people are making it out to be either. At least the image of the monster itself looks the same. One could also say the same thing about Red Daemon's Dragon; the black/gray background would certainly look good with its darker appearance.

And besides, it's just the background area.

I myself have really disliked how some cards have looked (originally or TCG-wise), but I just deal with it. It's not like it affects how it can be used as there are no effects involving pretty, cool, etc pictures/backgrounds/etc.
Cat-Man (guest) - 2009/07/26 20:25

Red Daemon's Dragon

Actually doesn't look that bad with a white border. Maybe not as good as Stardust Dragon or Ally of Justice Catastor, but it still has a distinctive look to it.

The Dark Synchros on the other hand... their artwork just looks "out of their element," if you will. Card art gets pretty dark in terms of colors and general appearance, but never anything quite as dark as these guys. They just don't seem right with a white border.

Like I said, Dark Synchros are NOT Morgan Freeman. White suits just don't look good on them.
XiaoCola (guest) - 2009/08/08 16:57

What If this card was not said to be a dark synchro monster, will it be flamed?
-confirm wont.
What if Stardust/AOJ / any synchro was said to be dark but changed to normal synchro,
will it be flamed?
-Yes.

Whye Didnt any1 flame Mystic Box for being so different from anime effect.
Whye Didnt people flame Multiply for being Different?
Whye not.
-Cos it is every1's thinking.

Just relax,cant you.
if you really dun like it, then dun use it, or burn it, or dunt buy it.

TheDarkAngelRocket (guest) - 2009/10/10 20:16

Dark Synchro

They couldn't make the Synchros into Dark Synchros for the following reasons.

1): Abuse of negative levels- There are plenty of cards which have activation nodes of "Level (x) or below." Since negative levels are lower than positive levels, you can abuse RotA or OHED (especially the latter since Dark Synchros are all "Level 6 or below.") This explains why there are no minus level monsters in the anime outside the Dark Synchros.
2): Dark Tuner expense- Most Dark Tuners in the anime are high-leveled and as such must be Advance Summoned in most cases. Then, you have to use one other monster. Is it really worth the trouble to summon something on the par of the less restrictive Synchros? Dark Synchros require a Dark Tuner to be used (and in most cases high-leveled ones). Instead, they have DARK-attribute tuner monsters, which are more plentiful and lower-leveled to accomedate for the positive-level change of the now Synchros.
3): Synchro and Ritual use- Both types of monsters require the levels of the monsters to be ADDED up. What would happen if you have a negative level monster? Would the levels be subtracted away? Therefore, to prevent any inconstencies, the monsters were changed to positive levels.
