Fallen Angels

Really, they are releasing the Fallen Angels recently.

Kaostheory - 2009/04/04 22:17

This is like a dark end dragon but instead of 500/500 payment it is 1000/0, too bad they should have made it 3000/3000 and made it pay in defense then it would be awesome. The special summon limitation make sense though since celestial transformation and infernal reckless summon can do a helluva lot of damage. I love the send part though since it doesn't destroy them and gets past assault mode special summon effects.

Exiro (guest) - 2009/04/05 00:27

And, more importantly, it gets past Stardust Dragon.

Overall, I'd stick with Dark-End Dragon...

1.) Only real advantage Desire has over it is that you can use 1 less monster to get it out (an Angel, of course, which would more-or-less usually require a Deck to utilize well), but otherwise, normally 2 like Dark-End probably will be. (Hardly ever see anyone use 3+ monsters for a Synchro Summon if it can be helped.)

2.) 1 use of its effect already puts it at lower ATK than Dark-End (Desire's 2000 to Dark-End's 2100).

3.) Normally, you'll only get 3 uses of its effect while Dark-End gets 5. (Though, either way, I doubt you'll get ALL the uses, but still...)

4.) Same effect; can both "send" a monster your opponent controls to the Graveyard once per turn. (So both can get by Stardust Dragon.)

5.) Most things you can do with Desire in terms of circumventing its ATK decreasing and all can be done with Dark-End Dragon just as well. (Reverse Trap, Equips, etc.)

6.) Above all else, Dark-End Dragon is Special Summonable; its initial Synchro Summon + revival afterwards. Desire can't be Special Summoned, period, unless they make something to ignore the Summoning conditions for it, so most of the useful Special Summoning things Fairies have and whatnot is useless with it; Monster Reborn, Athena, Superbia, Valhalla, Dark Dimension Release/Escape from the Dark Dimension, etc. So it lost out on any big advantage over Dark-End Dragon here.

...and Celestial Transformation + Reckless Summoning of Hell isn't really a viable reason for making it non-Special Summonable. (And is the combo even used that often anymore anyway, even in a Fairy Deck?)

After all, Fallen Angel - Admodius is far superior overall (IMO) and you can still have a chance of the same combo if you have any extras in your hand (only restricts Special Summoning from the Deck and Graveyard, which also means you can use it with Valhalla and Dark Dimension Release) plus it can generate 2 free monsters when it's "destroyed" and sent to the Graveyard; one of which can't die in battle and 1 of which can't die by any card effects, so why not make that unable to be Special Summoned? Seems much more deserving.

So, considering this is the highest stat "Fallen Angel" Midori has used, its effect doesn't reflect it very well. (Level 10 and 300 more DEF than Asmodius.)

Heck, even Darklord Zerato can do more damage overall; bring it out with 1 Tribute easily with its effect, ditch a DARK, nuke all your opponent's monsters rather than 1. Sure it kills itself at the end of the turn the effect is used, but chances are it would've died next turn if it sat there anyway, and you can still Special Summon it back later too. Only disadvantage to Desire here is it "destroys", so things can stop it easier.

A bit disappointing overall, but I suppose it could've been A LOT worse. I think they should've combined the effect of another card(s) Midori used to improve it to better justify making it non-Special Summonable. Like Dark Mist. That effect (with a little modifying) would work well in combination with Desire's ATK decreasing;

Dark Mist
Normal Trap
You can only activate this card when your opponent declares an attack. By sending a number of DARK monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard whose combined Levels equal the Level of the attacking monster, negate the attack and destroy the attacking monster.

...change it to needing to attack it specifically, need to ditch Fairy-Type monsters only + once per turn. Give fodder for things like Superbia or Archangel Christia in the longrun as well.
