wow

why skill drain?

Dark Highlander (guest) - 2011/10/26 04:47

simple

because dark world don't use effects on the field. all dark world effects activate on the graveyard, with the exception of fabled raven
Herald (guest) - 2011/10/26 06:14

YCS

now I know why DW failed on the latest YCS coz DW noobs did not run Skill Drain

Setosama (guest) - 2011/10/26 08:00

And they were all trying to splash playsets of Tour Guides in there like idiots.
Trainer (guest) - 2011/10/26 10:35

Setosama...

You only say that because such builds did not top. Tour Guide is a good card and works well in many Decks. If most builds ran Skill Drain and did not top, your bias would likely lead you to say they should have been running Tour Guides.
Mazerkist - 2011/10/26 11:12

Trainer

Tour Guide variants of Dark World suck. I'd know since me and some friends tested Dark Worlds far before the Structure came out, on Dueling Network and it blew balls.
Mzerkist (guest) - 2011/10/26 21:45

You and You're friends are idiot

Tour Guide pitch out Broww -> XYZ into Leviair -> S. Summon removed DW -> Bounce DW for Grapha

+1 off of Gates
+1 off of Tour Guide/Leviair
+1 off of Grapha
= +3 off of one Tour Guide

??? I don't see how Tour Guides suck. The main reason why DW didn't top is because the majority of the people who played in top table were Tengu-Tour Guide Plant Synchro-Exceed, which is basically the worst match up for DW.
LOL (guest) - 2011/10/26 22:32

It's always refreshing to see internet punks talk like they know so much. If you are so good, why aren't you topping and winning YCS's? Without tour guide, your deck is maddeningly inconsistent. You better get that skill drain up first turn, or draw into your dragged downs to pitch your grapha, or you're getting the crap beat out of you. Tour Guide gives you another viable opener. You can fetch that Broww to bounce back into your hand. You can make one card Leviair plays, which let you plus so much.

Better yet, test against round after round of good players playing plants. Plants are by far the best deck right now in the TCG. Triple Tengu, Triple Tour Guide, Maxx C, TKR, the plant engine. And most of them that attended the YCS were heavily sided/teched against Dark World. Some of them mained Debunk, almost all of them sided in Crow and/or Shadow Imprisoning Mirror. They had a full complement of MST's and could side in Dust, so good luck keeping your gates/skill drain up on the field.

But yeah, keep saying it's because the dark world players didn't play drain. lol

Thank you for your presence, bright individuals.

drgns (guest) - 2011/10/26 16:29

Mazerkin

Tourguide gives you an instant start for your field spell engine, don't knock something because you have a bias. Both build have optimal traits about them.

Funkdat (guest) - 2011/10/26 20:07

Get a clue

The OCG doesn't have Tengu or TGU to deal with. Their meta is totally different. They have no OP Tengu TGU Plant decks to face that has won almost every event since it was formed. Also none of the pros played DW becuase they knew other decks had a better chance of winning. And finally, EVERYONE was siding heavily for DW. That doesn't happen in the OCG. Lots of people were maining or siding Skill Drain there. Don't make comments when it pretty clear you weren't there. TGU is amazing for the deck and the only way a even mained Skill Drain hurts it is if you are stupid enough to activate it before summoning TGU which is ussually summoned for a opening play anyways.

Yuginshin (guest) - 2011/10/26 23:13

Mostly true

I agree with this statement aside from they also side heavily for DW in OCG. Now on the TGU statement... Tour Guide is great in the deck it's definitely not necessary but like Fabled Raven if you have it you run it if you don't have it you can still win. Skill Drain on the other hand would at least stop Synchro Monsters.dek from constantly MSTing your Gate by giving them a better target... Now with Dark Smog coming out along with Skill Drain I can see DW topping more often in TCG... due to opponent suddenly having 3 major targets to MST while being unable to Heavy Storm due to Dark Deal (Which hurts them so bad). Dark Smog also gives an extra discard outlet making MST on Gates not so painful

exclusives ruining tcg

TCG exclusives like Tour Guide and Tengu are completely ruining the tcg's format. They are both busted beyond all belief. Look at YCS Ohio. 20 of top 32 were plant synchro because of how crazy consistent those cards make that deck. Its pretty much the entire reason tcg meta is basically 2 decks and why the ocg is so diverse. If konami focused on making exclusives that were balanced like orient dragon and to maxx c then i don't think we would even be wasting time on this discussion.
DW (guest) - 2011/10/27 04:49

Both decks has its own advantages and weaknesses

DW can still match with the other strong decks out there. Spell and Trap Side deck=Eradicator Epidemic Virus, Monsters like Gemini Imps, D.D Crow, etc.=Deck Devastation Virus, For Removal Tactics there is Burial from the different Dimension, Return from the different dimension, escape from the dark dimension at DW's disposal.

Dark Highlander (guest) - 2011/10/27 08:06

i've tested tour guide

tour guide have some advantages but the best version of dark world i've ever made was a full hand control deck. dark world have much hand-destruction cards at his disposal but many people don't play this way. dark world in my oppinion is a control deck. dark smog can make dark world more powerful and consistent but tour guide it isn't the best option to put in a dark world deck because to use it you must have at least 1 grapha on the graveyard or many banished cards because summon leviair just to stay on the field is just pointless and n° 17 can be easily removed from the field with 2500 atk. acid golem can make tour guide more consistent but with the cards we have on tcg, tour guide is just unnecessary for me. i'm not saying tour guide is a bad card on dark world, i just don't like it. tour guide alone can do big plays but it isn't the best card to put on dw NOW. photom shockwave can change this with wind-up zenmaines.

Big-Fox001 (guest) - 2011/10/27 08:17

Plant suck ass

Any one knows that plant is strong and dark worlds too but the both of them go down hard against dimensional rabbid 1st turn walking solemn and macro cosmos thats it your dead plants and dark worlds lol

EAA - 2011/10/27 09:36

I have a question to you all. If the World Championship were today, would you still consider plants a good opponent? This is because all above is valid. No one has a correct or incorrect answer to why plants are so good. However, what are the best cards from a plant deck in TCG? Aren't they TCG's exclusives? Let's discuss that. As exposed above, in TCG, plants are the "best" (in this moment) deck but they will find extremely difficult to make a World championship WITHOUT their exclusives.

I do not disagree with the fact that plants are an excellent deck in TCG but let's face it, would you think, honestly, plants could win a YWC if it were right now? Remember that exclusives are out of this event.

I think that obtaining victories in TCG thanks to exclusives puts TCG in a great disadvantage when in YWC due to players have to fill the missing spaces with different cards that, of course, will not work as the replaced ones. I'm not saying exclusives are the core of the deck but no one can deny they highly impulse the way plants works.

What do you think?

Anon (guest) - 2011/10/27 15:18

The players who have made it all the way to worlds wouldn't stick obsessively with a deck that is destroyed by the worlds ban list. They'd obv play something else so your point is irrelevant. If plants were allowed at worlds with the full capabilities they have in the TCG, they'd prob win if not take up most of the top spots. Without the TCG-exs people would prob play a wider variety of decks and a few rogue variants to give themselves a better chance of winner. Not play a deck that's been ripped to shreds by the worlds ban list.
DavidChaos (guest) - 2011/11/01 21:17

I agree with you, but as far as plants being a valid opponent without Tengu and Tour Guide, the answer is yes, because Junk Doppel is still a valid plant deck.

Right now, the TCG is in tier 0 Tengu Synchro. I think that's pretty clear to everyone. That's not gonna change until Tengu or TGU get hit. OCG is in tier 0.5 Agents, though. Note how I put that; Agents aren't unbeatable in OCG, but I'll be damned if they aren't top 4 in just about everything. I think, from the OCG's perspective, Kristya and BLS need to get hit (Kristya at 1 and BLS at 0 would leave Agents with only 1 dependable boss), while the TCG needs Tengu at 2 (if it doesn't help, then just ban the thing) and TGU at 1.
